Hello, I’m Bob Tyler and this is my fifth year of teaching and learning at South Union Elementary! I am very proud to be able to serve the 120+ English language learners in our school. I am passionate about meeting the educational, cultural, and language acquisition needs of our immigrant and refugee students, as well as all students who come from families with more than one language in their homes. I began my teaching career over twenty years ago, teaching English in Tokyo, Japan, and I hope to continue teaching for Des Moines Public Schools for another twenty years to come! I live in Des Moines and have two children: Ava, who attends Hubbell Elementary, and Henry, who attends Merrill Middle School. In my spare time I enjoy studying Japanese, traveling, cooking, reading, and playing guitar.
Hello and welcome to South Union! I’m Montana Van Sickle, and this is my third year teaching English Language Learners in Des Moines Public Schools. In 2015, I graduated from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, with endorsements in reading, English/language arts, and English as a second language. When I’m not teaching I enjoy reading, running, attending concerts, and watching the Iowa State Cyclones. I also love spending time with my friends and family. I look forward to another year of serving students and their families at South Union!
