Hello and welcome to South Union! I’m Montana Fisher, and this is my sixth year teaching English Language Learners in Des Moines Public Schools. In 2015, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, with endorsements in Reading, English/Language arts, and English as a Second Language. When I’m not teaching I enjoy reading, running, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. I also love spending time with my husband and our friends and family! I look forward to another amazing year of serving students and their families at South Union!
Hello, I’m Bob Tyler and this is my ninth year of teaching and learning at South Union Elementary. I am very proud to be able to serve the 130+ English language learners in our school. I am passionate about meeting the educational, cultural, and language acquisition needs of our immigrant and refugee students, as well as all students who come from families with more than one language in their homes. I began my teaching career almost 30 years ago, teaching English in Tokyo, Japan. I live in Des Moines and have two children: Ava, who is in 8th grade at Merrill Middle School, and Henry, who is a senior at Roosevelt High School. In my spare time I enjoy studying Japanese, traveling, cooking, reading, playing upright bass, and exercising.
Maggie has spent the last eight years at Roosevelt High School where she began in the English department with the last two years in the ELL department. An Iowa native, Maggie graduated from Drake University and right after graduating, she wanted to stay within the metro community she loved! When Maggie is not teaching, she is working on her farm, and riding horses which she competes with throughout the summer. Maggie is so excited to become a new member of the South Union family and cannot wait to get to know the students and families!
