I attended the University of Northern Iowa for both my undergraduate and graduate education. I received a B.A. ('95) in Communicative Disorders and a M.A., in Speech Language Pathology ('97). I love my job as a Speech Language Pathologist for Des Moines Public Schools. I believe in the mission of our professional organization (American Speech and Hearing Association) "Making effective communication, a human right, accessible and achievable for all."

My husband and I live in Des Moines with our three children. In my free time I enjoy reading, walking, volunteering and attending my children's activities. I am also a founding partner and board member of the non-profit organization, Healthy Birth Day.

I am thrilled to introduce myself as your child’s school counselor! This is my second year at South Union, and I am so happy to be a part of such a wonderful, diverse community.  As a counselor, I deliver classroom lessons to all students.  I hold small groups that focus on a range of topics, including social skills, grief, divorce, strategies for school success, anger, friendships, etc. I also conduct individual counseling sessions, collaborate with parents and teachers, and aid in crisis intervention and other various responsive services.
As a school counselor, I strive to be an advocate for every student and build quality relationships with all students, staff, parents, and community members. In order to ensure success and prosperity of all students, I believe that collaboration is imperative and that each child has the potential to succeed. I will work each day to provide students with a safe, nurturing environment where students can learn to lead more meaningful and successful lives in such a diverse, changing world.
About me: I graduated from Augustana University in 2014, with studies in Philosophy and Psychology and received a Master’s degree in School Counseling from South Dakota State University in 2016. I live in Des Moines with my husband, Brian, and our overly excitable dog, Luna.  In my free time, I enjoy yoga, walking my dog, singing in the Des Moines choral society, and spending ample time with family and friends.
Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns!
